YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Visiting a Massage Therapist is bound to generate some questions, especially if you're a new client or you've never had a massage. I have taken the liberty of covering some of the most frequently asked questions here. If the question you have regarding my Massage Therapy is not listed here, by all means, please get in touch and I will do all I can to provide you with the information you're looking for.

Are there any tips for during my massage?

Why is speaking up so important? This is your session – and the experience is all yours. I want you to enjoy every minute and benefit as much as possible from the time you have during your appointment. If you want anything changed – the pressure, areas worked, position, temperature, music etc. please say so. or if there's anything else that will make you feel more comfortable.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Health experts present the top five health benefits of adding regular massage therapy to your health and wellness strategy. Massage therapy from a licensed practitioner can:

  • Lower stress

  • The long-term effects of stress can take emotional and physical tolls. Massage therapy may relieve stress and associated conditions, such as tension headaches.

  • Increased Immune Function

  • Medical research indicates that massage therapy can help boost immune system strength by increasing the activity level of the body's natural "killer T cells," which fight off viruses.

  • Boost Mental Health and Wellness

  • Research suggests that massage therapy may directly affect symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression (all associated with mental health).

  • Pain Management and Improved Range of Motion

  • Pain can negatively affect a person's quality of life and impede recovery from illness or injury. Recent findings highlight the role of massage in pain management.

  • Improved Physical Fitness

  • Elite and recreational athletes can benefit from massage therapy – massage can reduce muscle tension, improve exercise performance, and prevent injuries.

When should I avoid getting a massage?

In general, there are a few conditions that would prevent you from getting a massage. Of course, do not schedule an appointment if you are feeling unwell, have a fever, cold, or have a contagious skin condition. The first trimester of pregnancy is generally considered off-limits for massage, as are active chemotherapy or other intensive medical treatments. If you have a severe medical condition and are unsure if a massage would be safe for you, I recommend that you speak with your doctor to get approval first.

4

What should I expect during my first massage visit?

We'll have a conversation massage about any injuries or conditions they should be aware of before commencing your massage (or if you've booked online, we will discuss anything you've listed on your screening questionnaire). I may also ask more in-depth questions to establish which areas you would like to focus on or if any specific conditions need to be addressed. It is essential to list all health concerns and medication so that I can adapt your session to your particular needs without causing any harm.

5

Do I have to be completely undressed? What do you wear for a massage?

You may undress to your level of comfort. Many people prefer to keep their underwear on during a massage, while others choose to remove all clothing. I will leave the room so you can undress and lie on the massage table under a towel. Regardless if you choose to remain in your underwear or not, I will always have towels available to ensure that you are always adequately covered.

6

Will the massage hurt?

A common question! In general, massages should not hurt. If you are in pain during a massage, this may cause your muscles to seize up, making the relaxing effects more difficult to achieve. If the pressure is too intense, speak up immediately so I can adjust. Specific techniques may result in soreness during the days following a massage, similar to that of a great workout, but in general, you should not have pain during or after your massage. Please also remember that this is a Swedish Massage technique geared toward relaxation. Should you require a different form of massage, it may be wise to seek the advice of a physiotherapist or qualified Sports Massage Therapist.

7

Do you talk during a massage?

Some people enjoy having a conversation during their massage but remember that the treatment is about releasing your tensions and enjoying the experience. Regardless of your choice, be sure to speak up during the massage if there is anything you'd like adjusted (temperature, pressure, music, etc.).

8

What if I fall asleep and snore?

It is incredibly common for clients to fall asleep during their massage. If you snore or drool, don't worry, I have seen this before and will not judge. I love seeing you so relaxed!

9

What if I have skin conditions?

Rest assured, as a massage therapist I have seen it all! Please do not feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. I am focused on creating a relaxing and therapeutic experience for you, and you cannot relax if you are anxious about your body's appearance.

I ask that you please do not come for a massage if you have any contagious skin conditions, broken skin or peeling from sunburn. If you have any doubts, please get in touch before booking an appointment.

10

What if I get an erection during my massage?

Erections during massage can be a common occurrence. Don't be embarrassed if it happens to you! This is often a natural bodily reaction and won't be an issue. If you're still concerned, consider wearing fitted undwear that offers more support and coverage than standard boxer shorts. I want you to be as comfortable and as relaxed as possible so as not to disrupt the flow of your session.

Note: I will not tolerate any sexual advances during my massage sessions. In the unlikely event that I feel the session has become sexual, I will take the necessary steps to clarify the situation and promptly end the session if needed.

11

How often should I get a massage?

Individual preference varies, so for most, it depends on your pain, physical needs, emotional needs, and budget. Receiving a massage regularly has the most benefit; this can be as often as weekly or monthly.

12

Should I tip after my massage?

Tipping is neither required nor expected, but I appreciate the gesture! If you would like to leave a tip, you can either add it on at check out as you pay or include it with your cash payment.
